Chakra curious?
Get a general understanding of what the 7 chakras are, as we explore them through yoga, acupuncture, music, essential oils, tuning forks and guided meditation.
What are Chakras?
The Sanskrit word Chakra, translates to wheel or disk.
In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body.
There are seven main chakras, which align the spine, starting from the base of it, through the crown of the head. These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body.
Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being.
Chakra Workshop Series:
This year we will hold one workshop for each of the 7 Chakras. We will start with the root chakra and end with the crown chakra.
You can jump in at any point in this series, or miss a workshop, if you so desire. It is recommended though, for the best overall health benefit to you, that you do all 7 workshops, in this order.
January Workshop:
Muladhara Chakra
The root chakra is the first of the 7 main chakras. It's located at the base of the spine, is the root of your being and establishes the deepest connection with your physical body and the earth.
The muladhara is the most instinctual of all the chakras - it is your survival center. Your fight and flight response is initiated from this chakra. It is your primal, animal nature. It also sets the foundation for your emotional and mental health.
This chakra connects to familial beliefs and supports your identity as member of a group. Body parts associated with the muladhara are the base of the spine, the legs, bones, feet, rectum, and the immune system.
During the first hour of this workshop, Elisabeth Sawich will teach us basics about the Muladhara or Root Chakra and guide us through a yoga flow to open and balance this center. This class is for all levels. Modifications will be made to suit your skill level.
The second hour, Kristen Happe L.Ac., will use a series of acupuncture points to aid in harmonizing the Root Chakra. We will incorporate essential oils, tuning forks and guided meditation into this hour as well.
Workshop Location:
