Durga - Stand in Truth
The Navratri Festival* begins October 1st. It's a time of celebration for the Divine Mother, Durga. In it's honor, this workshop will focus on her.
The first hour will include an in depth lecture by Heather Lorah. In it she'll discuss the Goddess Durga and her many faces. Her Mantra and Mudra will be given along with a mystical story of her creation. Many details will be discussed on ways that we can embody the Goddess and bring her into our everyday lives.
The second hour Elisabeth Sawich, RYT will guide you through a yoga sequence designed to celebrate and explore the goddess within. It is adapted for all levels of practice. Beginner through advanced yogis, welcome.
The third hour you'll receive an acupuncture treatment designed to release what holds you back on an emotional level. Kristen Happe, L.Ac. will perform the treatment. A mystical journey through meditation will follow, with time given for reflection and journaling.
*Navratri Festival*
Navratri means "9 Nights". During the 9 night festival, the 3 primary facets of the Divine Mother are celebrated, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The theme of the entire Vedas is reflected in the Navratri Festival - Purify the mind and remove all negativities (Durga); cultivate positive virtues (Lakshmi); gain spiritual knowledge and transcend limitations (Saraswati). The goddesses are thought to have descended upon the earth in their warrior forms, destroying evil and replacing it with love, joy and light.
For those unfamiliar with the Vedas, they are are a collection of hymns and other religious texts composed in India between 1500 and 1000 BCE. They include elements such as liturgical material as well as mythological accounts, poems, prayers, and formulas considered to be sacred.
